Gahanna Kitchen Remodel Brings Dark Kitchen Cabinets Beautifully Up to Date

The moons replaced dark cabinets in a small space with the storage and style they’ve always wanted.

Vickie and Marty Moon waited a long time to update their Gahanna kitchen – but when the time was right, they turned their space into the kitchen of their dreams!

“From the day I moved in, I hated the dark cupboards,” Vickie says, recalling the outdated décor and dark cabinets she lived with for 27 years. “We got rid of the green appliances a little at a time, but the cupboards stayed the same. We looked into remodeling several times over the years and researched replacement options as well as doing it ourselves, but we knew we needed to find the right company to do it for us.”

That search led the Moons to a familiar name: Improveit Home Remodeling. Having previously worked with Improveit on a walk-in tub they love, Vickie and Martin were thrilled to hear about Improveit’s expansion into kitchen remodeling. During a visit to the Improveit booth at the Columbus Fall Home & Garden Show, they set a kitchen design appointment and the rest is history!

Updating dark Kitchen Cabinets & Adding Functionality

In addition to replacing their old, dark cabinets, the Moons wanted to increase storage and counter space with their kitchen remodel. Vickie is an avid baker – even sharing her signature pumpkin cookies with the Improveit staff! – and the couple loves to host family gatherings.

“We used to have a standalone cabinet with fabric bins along the back of the peninsula to give us more storage,” Vickie says. “Improveit worked with us to add permanent cupboards there, and extend the countertop so I have much more space now. We can put all the crockpots out for get-togethers, or I can really spread out many cooling racks while I’m baking,” she says, calling her new extended peninsula “a godsend.”

Additionally, the moons upgraded their cabinetry to include storage accessories like a pull-out trash drawer, pull-out shelving, and a specialty upper cabinet for better organization. Together, these additions make the kitchen more efficient and enjoyable to use. “The pull-out shelves have been so good because all I have to do is open a cabinet and pull the shelf out,” Vickie says. “I don’t have to squat and hurt my knees to see what’s in the lower cabinets, and I can get into my corner cabinet so much easier now!”

A Great Experience for Their Gahanna Kitchen REmodel

For Marty, Improveit’s attention to detail and willingness to listen and make adjustments were highlights of their kitchen remodel. “I like the idea that you guys don’t come in and say, ‘this is the way we’re going to do it,’” he says. “Improveit they take our consideration, our ideas to heart. And it was no pressure whatsoever. Everything was on our schedule, and whatever we wanted to do they helped us accomplish that. We really liked that.”

Marty was especially involved in the design process, working with the Improveit team to create a custom countertop shape that fit well in the space. “The quality of their work was just absolutely top-notch,” he said. “Everything was taken care of in a timely way and fit perfectly.”
